ABOUT ME
Artist Statement:

I’m currently working on creating ceramic works that explore the depths of the lived human experience. I’m interested in capturing moments of fragility, humor, and resilience. By pulling from my personal experiences, I’m able to create work that is an extension of myself with a personal narrative that others could relate to in some of their experiences.
My work explores the transformative potential of vintage plaster molds that I collect for slip casting. I cast multiple molds at once and then select fragments from different objects to combine into new one-of-a-kind forms. This allows me to combine disparate elements in a way that somehow feels nostalgic and contemporary at the same time. I utilize these fragments in combination as symbols of an idea. These pieces are like three dimensional sketches for me.
To expand on them, I often then hand build these pieces at a large scale to further push the boundaries of the medium and incorporate further details as I expand on the work. The resulting works are playful and imbued with a kitsch aesthetic with a contemporary twist.
My practice is a conversation between past and present in both the use of the material and the stories that I tell through the work. At the same time, my work explores transformation through time in human experience through both the narrative and the way of making that derives from vintage molds and kitsch aesthetics.
